Roadmap overview
The 2026 data analyst roadmap in one view
The tools have not changed dramatically, but expectations have: recruiters now want proof of skills through projects, not just certificates.

Our data analytics course in Hyderabad follows exactly this order over 3 months, with projects at every stage.
Step-by-step roadmap
Seven stages from beginner to hired
Each stage builds on the previous one. Do not skip ahead to Python before you are comfortable with SQL.
01
Excel and basic statistics
Formulas, lookups, pivot tables and charts, plus mean, median, distributions and correlation. This is the language of business data.
02
SQL, the most-tested skill
SELECT, filtering, joins, GROUP BY, subqueries, CTEs and window functions. Practise on real databases until queries feel natural.
03
A BI tool: Power BI or Tableau
Data modelling, DAX or calculated fields, and interactive dashboards. Start with one tool; see Power BI vs Tableau.
04
Python for analysis
Pandas for cleaning and analysis, Matplotlib or Seaborn for charts, and basic automation of repetitive tasks.
05
End-to-end projects
Build 3β4 projects that go from raw data to insight. Try our beginner project ideas.
06
Portfolio, resume and LinkedIn
Publish projects on GitHub, write a project-led resume and make your LinkedIn show what you can do.
07
Interview preparation
Practise SQL rounds, case questions and explaining your projects. Start with our data analyst interview questions.

SQL fluency
Joins, aggregations, window functions and writing clean queries under time pressure.
Technical
Dashboarding

Technical
Excel and Python
Fast Excel for quick analysis; Pandas for larger or repeated work.
Business
Asking the right question
Turning a vague business request into a measurable analysis.

Mistakes to avoid
What slows most beginners down
We see the same patterns in every batch. Avoid these and you will save months.
β Jumping into machine learning before mastering SQL and Excel.
β Watching tutorials without practising on real datasets.
β Collecting certificates instead of building projects.
β Learning three BI tools at once instead of mastering one.
β Waiting to feel "ready" before applying for jobs.
FAQs
Data analyst roadmap questions, answered
Should I learn SQL or Python first?
SQL first. It is tested in almost every analyst interview and is easier to get productive with. Add Python once SQL feels comfortable.
Can I become a data analyst in 3 months?
With a structured full-time course and daily practice, many learners are interview-ready in about 3 months. Self-study usually takes 4β6 months.
Do I need maths to follow this roadmap?
Only school-level maths and basic statistics. Logical thinking matters more than advanced maths for analyst roles.
Is AI going to replace data analysts?
AI tools speed up analysis, but companies still need people who understand the business, check the data and explain decisions. Analysts who use AI well are in demand.
How many projects do I need?
Three or four solid, end-to-end projects are enough. Quality and your ability to explain them matter more than quantity.
Is this roadmap suitable for non-IT graduates?
Yes. It starts from Excel and builds up gradually. Read our non-IT to data analyst guide for extra tips.
